Top 5 things to do in Middlebrough

The Top Five Things to Do in Middlesbrough

There are days when we want nothing more than to kick back and relax after a day on the tools. But there are also times when we want to make the most of our evenings. Times when we want to explore the many things to do in Middlesbrough and enjoy our limited time off.

This blog on The Top Five Things to Do in Middlesbrough is for those days. The days when you want to explore the town and have some fun. We’ve lived here for most of our lives, so we know the hidden gems that you’ll enjoy during your time off, hidden gems that we have listed below.

Be Entertained at Middlesbrough Theatre

Like the town itself, the Middlesbrough Theatre offers something for everyone, making it an easy pick for anyone looking for things to do here and a worthy inclusion in our rundown of The Top Five Things to Do in Middlesbrough. You can laugh a tough week off with a comedy show or entertain and inform yourself with a drama production or spoken word performance.

The 484-seat venue is praised for its atmosphere and is the perfect place to wind down and entertain yourself on an evening. It’s only a short bus ride from the town centre and is just one mile out from our serviced apartment in the town centre.

Grab a Free Drink at an Open Mic Night

Things to do in Teeside - Open mic night

We all look forward to Friday, so celebrate it the right way with a night of live performances at Bedford Street Social. Talented musician, Jade Lowrey, hosts the night, which includes a variety of acts, from live bands to stand-up comedians.

If you like real ale, then you’ll be pleased to know Bedford Street Social doubles up as a quirky bottle shop, selling everything from independent bottle brands to renowned craft kegs. Their open mic night also includes a free drink, so you can sample a bottle on the house!

Once you’re done singing the night away, we recommend exploring the rest of Bedford Street and Baker Street too. There is a range of cocktail bars, micro pubs, and traditional boozers, meaning there is something for everyone who is looking for things to do in Middlesbrough.

Transporter Bridge Bungee Jump

This is arguably one of the most fun things to do in Middlesbrough and is one of the best days out in the northeast. However, we’d only recommend it to adrenaline junkies! Bungie jumping off a bridge isn’t for everyone (even if you do have water below to break your fall). The UK’s only Bridge Bungee Jumping venue, the iconic and impressive Tees Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough is one of the most famous bungee jump locations in the world.

Teesside Escape Rooms

Unless you’re up for a solo mental challenge, this game is best undertaken with a friend or colleague. Like an IRL (in real life) version of the Crystal Maze, your wits will be put to the test after you’re given one hour to unlock the mystery of the escape room. If you can’t get out within the hour, then your time is up and you’ve failed the test. Better luck next time. If you make good on your escape then the bragging rights are yours. Hey, get you.

We recommend Teesside Escape Rooms as one of the most fun things to do in Middlesbrough, which is why it’s in our rundown of The Top Five Things to Do in Middlesbrough. It’s a nice welcome break from the strains of work and a challenging but enjoyable way to spend an hour. Remember to be nice and polite to the escape room staff on the way in, as they may need to let you out!

Visit The Empire

5 Great Things to do in Middlesbrough - The Empire

This one is for the music junkies. With three floors dedicated to style and music, The Empire is one of the finest nightclubs and live music venues in the country, so including it in our The Top Five Things to Do in Middlesbrough is a no-brainer.

The 3-storey nightclub and live music venue has interior elements from the original Victorian theatre. Built in 1897 as a music hall, The Middlesbrough Empire has played host to a variety of star performers from yesteryear including Charlie Chaplin and Laurel & Hardy! Since he bought the venue in 1991, Barry Faulkner has transformed the derelict building into what is arguably one of the UK’s finest venues/nightclubs.

What stands out about The Empire isn’t just its size; it’s the quality of performers it attracts. The likes of the Creeps and Deal Rebel Club have all performed here, as have The Scissor Sisters, The Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian. Whether you’re looking for a night out and a few drinks or just a great venue to enjoy some live music, we couldn’t recommend The Empire highly enough for anyone looking for fun things to do in Middlesbrough.
